Interesting Facts of Giant Pandas
In the 1940s, the Chongqing Beibei Nature Museum exhibited a Giant Panda. The Latin printed on the label meant Bear-like cat, with a Chinese translation of Mao Xiong (literally Cat Bear); yet Chinese was commonly read from right to left at that time so people took Mao Xiong as Xiong Mao. Due to its popularity it was then formally known as Da Xiong Mao, the Giant Panda, or Xiong Mao panda.
