Giant pandas like to live alone and stay away from the others. A male giant panda has a home range of approximately 6~7 km2. A female giant panda has a home range of around 4~5 km2, but most of its activities occur within an exclusive home range core of 0.3 km2. Old hollow trees within the home range core provide a safe place for giving births. Female giant pandas have only a few days of oestrus every year when male giant pandas are allowed to enter their core range. They part right after mating and only the female would take up the nurturing responsibility.
